Read Books Aloud (“the app”) · Effective October 6, 2026
The app makes bedtime stories for children, written, illustrated, and read aloud with the help of AI. It is made for parents: a parent creates the account, sets up each child’s profile, and approves every story before a child hears it. This policy explains what the app collects, where it goes, and how to delete it.
The app is operated by John Kim (“we”). Questions: utjohnkkim@gmail.com.

We don’t use advertising, ad tracking, or third-party analytics, and we never sell your information.
Only to run the app: to write, check, illustrate, and narrate stories; to create the family voices you ask for; to tune stories to a child’s reading level; and to keep the service secure.
The app relies on outside AI services. You are asked to agree to this sharing in the app before anything is sent. These services receive information only to do their part, under their own privacy terms:
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Replicate (replicate.com), which runs AI models including Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s GPT, and Black Forest Labs’ FLUX | Story requests (including a child’s first name, age, interests, and what they’re working on), story text, photos you add, chat text, and text to be read aloud | Writing and revising stories, checking Bible stories against scripture, describing photos, drawing illustrations, chat replies, and narration |
| Inworld AI (inworld.ai) | Recordings for family voices; story and page text to be read in those voices | Creating family voices and reading aloud in them |
| Apple | Speech for story chats, when it can’t be turned into text on the iPhone; App Attest checks | Speech-to-text; confirming requests come from the genuine app |
| Tailscale (tailscale.com) | Encrypted connections between the app and our server | Network routing; it cannot read the content |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
On our own server, in the United States. Uploaded photos, voice recordings, illustrations, and narration are stored as files on the same server. Connections to it are encrypted.
We keep your information until you delete it. In the app you can delete any story, child profile, character, or family voice at any time.
To delete everything: open the menu on the home screen and choose Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and everything in it — children’s profiles, stories, characters and photos, voice recordings, and the family voices created at Inworld — from our server right away. We do not currently make routine backups of app data.
Children don’t create accounts and can’t use the app without a parent setting it up. Information about a child is provided by the parent, and story chats happen only when a parent turns them on for a story. A parent can review or delete their child’s information at any time in the app, or by contacting us. We don’t knowingly collect information from a child except as a parent directs in this way.
Connections are encrypted, passwords are hashed, and the server accepts requests only from the genuine app (Apple App Attest). No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date above. If the change affects what is shared with outside AI services, the app will ask for your agreement again.
